Many of you will have known Dr Brian Conway well, as an inspirational leader and exceptional GP of this practice for 30 years. 

It is with great sadness that we announce that he died peacefully at home at the weekend with all of his family around him.  Brian was diagnosed with a brain tumour last summer.  Typically he did not want to make any fuss, or to cause any upset to friends, colleagues or patients about his condition, which is why this news will have come as quite a shock to many of you.

Brian came to Evelyn Road practice in 1978, a very traditional practice in a cramped Edwardian house.  With his partners, he set about modernising the practice and with his unstinting drive for quality and absolute dedication to the surgery he made it what it is today.

Brian was always at the forefront of General Practice, leading the way in fundholding and primary care group projects.  11 years ago he became Chair of the Executive Committee of the Primary Care Trust and helped to create one of the most efficient and advanced Trusts in the Country.  B&NES PCT always seemed to be ahead of the game and under his leadership successfully delivered very high standards of care for patients in the Bath area.

After retiring from the practice in 2008, he continued his work until last year when he finally withdrew from public life.  It is a source of great sadness to the partners that his great wisdom and quiet, modest approach has been lost so soon.  He will be greatly missed by us all.
